Coaches and Officials
Track and Field
Cyril Jones – Cyril is a fully qualified coach and has been coaching for 20 years. He has an in-depth knowledge of most events, which is of great benefit to our athletes. Currently, he is coaching sprints, hurdles, endurance running, and steeplechase. He has many years of experience coaching High Jump, Long Jump, and Triple Jump and sometimes gets involved with the coaching of throwing events.
Richard Howes – Richard is a fully qualified coach. He is an accomplished athlete and is a British champion in his age group at Long Jump. He specializes in the coaching of all the throwing events, including Shot Put, Discus, Javelin, and Hammer. He is also a very capable and knowledgeable coach for High Jump, Long Jump, Triple Jump, Sprints, and Hurdles.
Will Carter – Will is a very accomplished decathlete. He is, therefore, able to coach all events, including Pole Vault. He is usually involved in the coaching of the throwing events and frequently coaches the jumping events, sprints, hurdles, and endurance events.
Kevin Waite – Kevin specializes in the coaching of endurance events. He usually includes sprints coaching as part of his sessions and is also able to coach other events.
Nicola Holmes – Nicola is one of our newly qualified assistant coaches. She coaches sprints, endurance, hurdles, High Jump, and Long Jump.
Andrew Ward – Andrew is also a newly qualified assistant coach. He coaches sprints, endurance, hurdles, and Long Jump.
Chris Whawell – Chris is qualified as a Leader in Running Fitness. He is at the forefront of organizing, planning, and supervising road running training sessions on Monday and Wednesday nights.
Richard Lord – Richard is in the process of qualifying as a Leader in Running Fitness. He is also at the forefront of organizing, planning, and supervising the road running sessions on Mondays and Wednesdays.
Christine McCarthy – Christine has been competing in open races on the roads and cross country for nearly 40 years. She is one of the quickest runners in her age group in the country and has recently been selected to represent England in a half marathon against the Celtic nations later this year. She organizes the road running sessions on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Cyril Jones – Cyril is a Level 3 qualified Track Judge. As such, he is qualified to officiate at club, county and regional level. He has officiated at more than 500 competitions over the last 20 years and has been the Track Referee on many occasions at open meetings and league meetings such as the West Yorkshire Track and Field League and the Yorkshire and District Athletics League. He has also organized many open meetings and meetings within our own club for Track and Field, Road Running, and Cross Country. He also officiates as the Starter at competitions within our own club.
Jane Williams – Jane is a Level 1 qualified Timekeeper. As such, she has officiated on many occasions at open meetings and meetings of the West Yorkshire Track and Field League and the Yorkshire and District Athletics League. She also takes on the role of Chief Timekeeper at meetings within our own club for Track and Field, Road Running, and Cross Country.
Duncan Fraser – Duncan is in the process of qualifying as a Field Judge. He has completed the course and will fulfil the practical experience requirements, which are needed to give him the Level 1 qualification when Covid 19 restrictions are lifted and competitions are resumed.
