Road Runners GP Calendar 2020

What is the Grand Prix?

The Grand Prix is a set of internal club races that helps have a level of competitiveness within the club against each other and against yourself. Pontefract AC runs a series of events over multiple distances throughout the year which our athletes are encouraged to enter and participate in and to see how they get on.

Athletes are split into four divisions based on their abilities at the 10k distance. Within these four divisions, athletes are vying for points.

The fastest finisher within each division at each of these events gets 10 points, the second gets 9 points, third gets 8 points, fourth gets 7 points, fifth gets 6 points, sixth gets 5 points, seventh gets 4 points, eight finisher and all other finishers gets 3 points, and any runner who doesn’t complete the event due to illness or injury gets 2 points as a DNF (Did Not Finish). Every road runner in the club, no matter how quick or not so quick have something to compete for in their division.

The best 8 performances from all TWELVE races will be used when calculating your total points for the year.

This year isn’t like any other year though.

There were two GP events prior to the Coronvirus lockdown – Norton 9 and Pontefract 10k. After these two races, Pontefract AC recognised that runners weren’t able to compete in their usual number of races due to the Coronavirus pandemic and mass-gathering restrictions so chose to schedule in some internal races to fill the racing calendar for our road runners.

The results for the two pre-lockdown races will still stand. The following ten rounds post-lockdown will be added to these in the league tables as before.

  • Round Ten – Sun 15 Nov 10am – 5k – Pontefract Park

League Tables To Date (as of 24/10/20)

You can find the league tables in this document here

The scores in the document above are the scores from all the races so far. The best EIGHT performances of each athlete from all TWELVE races will be used when calculating their final GRAND PRIX position for the year.

Who is eligible to take part and win?

We are happy for 'guests' to take part if they're considering joining the club. The wouldn't be eligible for points though.

The winners of each of the divisions will receive a trophy at the Club Presentation Evening in February 2021.

You will need to be a paid-up club member to be eligible for winning your league. Other runners who may not have registered yet will be ‘pencilled in’ so that their scores aren’t confirmed until their payment has been received. Another incentive for membership to be paid! 😊

New members will be added to the league tables as and when they compete.

Most Improved Athlete

In previous years there has been a Most Improved Athlete competition. This award will be judged this year by the active Run Leaders collectively and confirmed by the club’s management committee.
